What are the registration requirements for nurses?

The NZ Nursing Council is the primary organization responsible for ensuring that all Nurses working in New Zealand have up-to-date knowledge and skills, and have completed a suitable level of training prior to working.

Registration takes between 6 weeks and 6 months dependent upon the country you obtained your primary degree or original Registered Nurse certification and the documentation you can provide.

On the NZNC website, you will find registration forms which can be easily downloaded.  Once your application is submitted, the Council checks all the information presented to them.  This process can take several months as they contact your tertiary institution and referees to ensure all information is accurate.  Be sure to factor this process into your timing and ensure you have a couple of months to spare before beginning work.
